How it works

Join audio puts several audio files together into one track, in the order you choose. Add the files, drag them into the order you want to hear them, and press the button. Everything happens on your own device: the files are never uploaded, there is no account to create and nothing is charged, however many files you join and however often you come back.

When the files are the same kind of audio - same format, same sample rate, same number of channels - they are placed one after another exactly as they are. The sound is never taken apart and put back together, so the result keeps the quality of the originals down to the last bit, and an MP3 stays an MP3. That is also why it is quick: joining an hour of audio takes about as long as reading the files. Files that were recorded or downloaded together, such as the chapters of an audiobook or a set of voice memos from the same phone, almost always match.

When one file is different - another format, or a recording made at another sample rate - the page says so before you press anything and points at the file that stands out. Those files can still be joined, but the sound has to be encoded again to fit together, which takes longer, costs a little quality and can change the format of the result. If you would rather keep the join exact, take the odd file out, convert it separately and add it back.

  1. Add your files: drop them onto the page or pick them from your device. They stay on your device, so there is nothing to upload and no queue to wait in.
  2. Put them in the order you want to hear them. Drag a row up or down, or use the arrows on the right; the number on the left is the position in the finished track.
  3. Look at the details under each name - length, format, sample rate and channels. The line under the list tells you whether the files will be joined as they are or have to be encoded again first.
  4. Press Join audio and keep the tab open. You will see the progress and roughly how long is left, and you can stop at any moment.
  5. Download the result. It comes with -joined added to the name of the first file, so your original files stay where they are.
