How it works
Unlike our image, video and PDF tools, this one cannot run in your browser: reading Office formats correctly takes LibreOffice, which exists only as a server program. Your document is sent to us, opened in an isolated sandbox that has no internet access and holds none of our credentials, and turned into a PDF. Both your original and the finished PDF are deleted automatically after about six hours. Office to PDF converts Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OpenDocument files — DOCX, DOC, ODT, RTF, XLSX, XLS, ODS, PPTX, PPT, ODP and ODG — into PDF, keeping the layout, fonts and page breaks as LibreOffice renders them. It is the one converter on this site that does not run inside your browser, and that was not a free choice: reading these formats properly takes a complete office suite, and no such engine exists for the browser. So the file really is uploaded, converted on our servers, and handed back to you as a PDF. That conversion happens inside a locked-down sandbox with no network access at all and no access to any of our credentials; nobody reads your document and nothing is trained on it; and both your original and the finished PDF are deleted automatically after about six hours. Each conversion costs a flat number of credits per document, however many pages come out — a hundred-page report costs the same as a one-page letter, because the page count is only known once the document has already been converted. Files are capped at 100 MB. Complicated documents can shift a little: unavailable fonts are substituted with the closest match, and macros are never executed.
- Choose a document or drop it onto the page. Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OpenDocument formats are accepted, up to 100 MB per file.
- The first conversions each hour are free. After that it is one flat charge per document, however many pages the finished PDF has.
- Press “Convert to PDF”. If you are not signed in, the button takes you to sign-in first and brings you straight back here. The file is then uploaded, queued and converted on our servers — usually a few seconds, longer for large spreadsheets.
- Download the finished PDF when it appears.
- Save it somewhere permanent: results are removed from our servers after about six hours.
